Tell us a little about yourself.
I was born and raised in West Virginia (*cue “Take Me Home, Country Roads” by John Denver*). I’m new to Asheville, but growing up my family spent lots of weekends here and I inevitably fell in love with it. So when the opportunity to begin my pharmacy career here came about, I knew I had to jump on it!
I have an undergraduate degree in Biochemistry and earned my Doctor of Pharmacy in 2019 from Belmont University College of Pharmacy in Nashville, TN.
What is your passion within pharmacy?
I have always been incredibly passionate about mental health.
I feel that even though many of us have been affected by mental illness in some way, either directly or indirectly, there is still a general lack of awareness and understanding that surrounds it. Because of this, I think many patients are often too embarrassed or nervous to ask questions and discuss their medications.
My hope is to overcome these negative ideas by providing education and support to patients; empowering them so that together, we can try to break the stigma of mental illness.
What do you love about working at Sona?
What I love most about Sona is our commitment to our patients.
As someone who previously worked at a “chain” pharmacy, I can tell you firsthand that you’d be hard-pressed to find one that provides the same level of dedication and service that we do here at Sona.
We sincerely strive to ensure every patient feels cared for and valued because to us, our patients aren’t just anyone, they’re family.
What makes your personal skill set unique?
I think my strongest skill is my ability to communicate and engage with others.
I always try to be my true, authentic self and approach any interaction or conversation with honesty and transparency. I feel this allows me to genuinely connect with patients, creating trusted long-lasting relationships.
What are your hobbies?
In my free time, you will most likely find me hanging out with my lab mix, Wally. We enjoy getting to hike and be outside. I also love to read, travel, and craft. My newest hobby is making earrings out of clay (….let’s just say I hope the whole pharmacy thing works out).
Now that you know a little more about me, stop by the pharmacy and say hello! I am so excited to be a part of the Sona team and look forward to working with all of you!
