Today (December 1st) is World AIDS Day, the first-ever global health day. Started in 1988 and observed each year since, organizations and individuals across the world bring attention to the HIV epidemic, endeavor to increase HIV awareness and knowledge, speak out against HIV stigma, and call for an increased response to move toward Ending the HIV Epidemic: A Plan for America.
Sona Specialty Pharmacy treats many patients, including those living with HIV/AIDS. To support our patients and community, here are local resources for those living with HIV/AIDs:
Loving Food Resources (LFR) is a food pantry that provides food, health, and personal care items to people in 18 counties of WNC who are living with HIV/AIDS or who are in Home Hospice care regardless of diagnosis.
Western North Carolina AIDS Project (WNCAP) is dedicated to preventing new cases of HIV/AIDS and promoting self-sufficiency in people living with HIV.
Western North Carolina Community Health Services (WNCCHS) has provided high quality, comprehensive HIV care for 20 years to men, women, infants, children, and youth, regardless of ability to pay.
One of the most important things all of us can do is educate ourselves about HIV/AIDS to support loved ones and end the spread. Read all of the CDC’s HIV Basics to learn more about prevention and ending the stigma.
