Usually when a car hits 300,000 miles, it’s time to trade it in for a new model. Nick Tipton, one of Sona’s most respected delivery drivers, is over 300,000 miles in and just getting started!
Tell us a little about yourself, Nick!
Hi, my name is Nick Tipton and I am a delivery driver at Sona.
I am in my mid 30’s, but I have to admit, I look more like I’m in my 20’s. I’m married, and have a daughter who is 20 months old.
How long have you been with the company?
I have been working with Blue Ridge Rx / Sona for over 6 years.
As you can imagine, that’s a lot of miles!
What is your favorite thing about your job?
I really enjoy getting to know our customers. It’s hard for me to turn down a good conversation!
We have the opportunity to serve people from all walks of life. They all have different life experiences, and it’s always interesting to hear more about their individual stories.
What kind of music do you listen to as you drive?
I listen to all kinds of music while I drive. The only exception is country music, so you will never catch me on the local country stations.
Outside of listening to the radio, I also enjoy reading books. I’ve been known to listen to a handful of audio books on the road as well.
What are some of your favorite Sona delivery memories?
I have a lot I could tell, but a couple come to mind having to do with snow storms:
A few years ago, there was a hospice patient, who is no longer with us, living way out in Leicester. She didn’t think I could make it up her driveway, but I told her I was going to give it my best effort. I finally made it up through the snow, and she was extremely happy to see me. She even gave me some homemade cookies for my troubles.
Another time, a couple living in Weaverville needed their medications and no one could make it up the road. The husband had just been released from the hospital, and even the ambulance had to stop and put chains on their tires to take him home. To this day, I’m still not sure how, but I made it up their road in the trusty Sona Prius!
Each delivery stop we make is an opportunity to serve a Sona patient, so I look forward to making even more deliveries in 2018 and beyond!
