WHY IS APRIL 27TH AN IMPORTANT DAY?
Exposing of unused or expired medications is one of the most important actions you can take to help keep drugs out of the wrong hands!
Western North Carolina, like much of the country, has been drastically impacted by the opioid epidemic.
If you would like to learn about the scale of the epidemic in WNC, Buncombe County government offers a great resource at: Buncombe County Closer.
April 27th is the National Prescription Drug Take Back Day.
The last National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day brought in more than 900,000 pounds of unused or expired prescription medication across the US.
This brings the total amount of prescription drugs collected by the DEA since the fall of 2010 to 10,878,950 pounds!
HOW CAN I HELP?
Please stop by Sona Pharmacy on April 27th from 10 am – 2 pm to drop off your no longer needed prescriptions.
If you are planning to drop off medications, please take a look at the below guidelines:
- – Please remove identification from all medications
- – Separate pill, liquids and inhalers
- – Use a different disposable paper or plastic bag for each type of medication
- – Empty dry pill medications into a bag; leave liquid medications in their original container and place in a separate bag
- – No radioactive medications
- – No needles or sharps accepted
If you would like to drop off medications prior to April 27th, drug take-back boxes are a convenient option.
Drug take-back boxes are medication disposal boxes that are permanently available at local law enforcement offices. These boxes allow you to securely dispose of prescription medications without the concern of them being diverted.
