What should people know about you?
My name is Ashley Thomas. I grew up in Surfside Beach, SC and am a proud University of South Carolina Gamecock alumna and fan!
My boyfriend and I are very excited to be back in Asheville. We have been living in Columbia, SC for the last 3.5 years while he completes his physical therapist degree. I am a proud “momma” to Tucker a 9.5 year old doberman; Birdie a 2 year old beagle/lab mix; Pete a 4 year old fluffy black cat; and most recently we rescued a 1 year old border collie mix named Brix! I am a proud aunt to 3 of the coolest boys–Fletcher, Theodore, and Jack. They live in Kentucky and moving 2.5 hours closer to them is very exciting!
When I am not loving on my animals or my nephews, I am either out hanging with friends, listening to live music, knitting, or travelling.
How did you become interested in finance?
I wanted to be an accountant since my junior year in high school. I took a bookkeeping course that year and a retired audit partner from Ernst & Young came to our class. The way he talked about the profession, and the lifestyle it afforded, I was certain that’s what I wanted to do.
I received by BS and Master’s of Accountancy from USC and became a CPA in SC & NC approximately 7 years ago.
What makes working at Sona exciting?
I am so excited to be working for a local, small business! I have been working for “corporate America” my entire career. It’s exciting to work for a company that is relatively young in its life cycle with tons of potential. I am also excited to be working with so many people that are just as enthusiastic about the company and the industry. I see Sona as a great opportunity for me to use my accounting skills to help the company continue to grow!
What are your favorite things to do in Asheville?
I love catching a show at the Orange Peel or Thomas Wolfe. Drinking an IPA at any one of the breweries, or trying whatever new restaurant has opened up. Since we have been gone for the last few years, I have lots to catch-up on! I also just love taking my dogs on a hike around the area and enjoying the weather.
What is the next item on your bucket list?
We are going to Croatia in November for a five city tour of the country. I am so excited to see the country, drink the wine, and eat the food!
