Tell us a little about yourself!
Hi, my name is Sarah Minchin, and I am a pharmacy technician here at Sona Pharmacy!
I was born and raised in Hendersonville, NC. I moved away from WNC a couple of years ago to live in Charlotte, NC and Charleston, SC. Beach life was great, but I decided to move back because there’s no place like home in the mountains.
I’m a true mountain girl at heart. I couldn’t see myself living anywhere else. When I’m not working, you can find me outside on trails with my fur babies hiking or trail running. There is just something refreshing about being outside in the fresh air that makes all the worries of the world disappear. I call it my trail therapy.
I’m a very active person and try to be healthy as possible. I enjoy going to the gym and lifting weights, or getting out on the trails for a couple of hours. The Blue Ridge Parkway is one of my favorite places to be. I even drive up on my lunch break somedays to soak in the sun and look out over the amazing views.
It’s hard to believe we often forget how lucky we are to have such beauty in our backyard.
What are your responsibilities at Sona?
My first and foremost responsibility at Sona is taking care of my patients.
I do everything from entering prescriptions, to pulling the medications and counting them. I also take care of ordering medications every night to restock our shelves.
We have a robot at Sona that I ensure gets restocked and that the monthly maintenance cleaning is getting done properly.
What drives you to do what you do?
It is so rewarding being able to be there for our patients who may have a harder time taking their medications. Some of our customers just need to know that we are hear to listen to them; and when we show them we truly care, a lot end up becoming like a second family to us.
Sona really doesn’t feel like a job to me – it feels more like getting to spend the day with my second family. We are here to help make healthcare easier for our patients, and that is a rewarding feeling. I’m lucky to call the team at Sona my family.
How does Sona differ from other pharmacies?
I’ve worked at a few different pharmacies, and here at Sona we try to go above and beyond for our patients.
Sometimes pharmacies can lose sight of taking care of the most important thing: the patient. Not many pharmacies will deliver medications if you’re not able to get out of bed to make it to the pharmacy. But at Sona, we’ll deliver them right to your door for free.
What is your favorite quote and why?
My favorite quote is: “Sometimes the paths we take are long and hard, but remember, those are the ones that lead to the most beautiful views” (Colin McCarty).
This quote is my favorite because we need to remember even when life gets hard, there is something beautiful right around the corner. When life is difficult, I go to my favorite place on the Parkway and take in the gorgeous views. When I see the mountains all around me, I know that God has everything where it should be.
