Tell us about yourself!
My name is Deven Jackson and I am a clinical pharmacist with Sona Pharmacy + Clinic.
I was born and raised in Georgia, but have been living in Asheville for one year. I received my doctor of pharmacy degree from the University of Georgia. I am a fan of sports (Go Dawgs and Braves!), live music, and exploring with friends!
Why do you choose to become a pharmacist?
When I initially applied to UGA, I signed up to be a physics major. Oddly enough, it was my high school physics teacher who first told me that I should consider pharmacy.
I had the opportunity to shadow at Young Brothers Pharmacy during my time at UGA and quickly came to love the profession. I truly love the opportunity to connect with patients and make a difference in their health.
What is your passion within pharmacy?
I have a passion for helping patients take charge of their chronic health conditions like diabetes, heart conditions, and many others.
Chronic conditions can affect a patient’s life in many ways, but the education and support I provide as a pharmacist can help.
I believe wholeheartedly that a great pharmacist can be the difference that makes a patient’s life better.
What is a fun fact about yourself?
Ever since I was a kid, graduating from UGA was always my goal.
I was so committed to achieving this goal that I applied exclusively to UGA for both undergrad and pharmacy school!
What can you do to better health of patients?
The most rewarding thing I can do is to empower patients!
I believe patients — not doctors, pharmacists, nurses, etc — are the most important player when it comes to their health. That’s why sometimes even seemingly small pieces of education (like why it’s important to take your meds!) can be life-changing.
What is your favorite thing about Sona Pharmacy + Clinic?
The entire team at Sona is committed to providing excellent patient care in the ever-changing world of community pharmacy!
Sona is well-equipped to help patients now, and I feel we will continue to find new ways to serve our patients in the future.
